Isaiah 55:1-11

It's Time

Isaiah 55:1-11

Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink - even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk - it's all free! Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay or food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food. Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life. I will make an everlasting covenant with you. I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David. See how I used him to display my power among the peoples. I made him a leader among the nations. You also will command nations you do not know, and peoples unknown to you will come running to obey, becuase I, the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, have made you glorious. Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near. Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong. Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy on them. Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously. "My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts," says the Lord. "And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and  my thoughts higher than your thoughts. The rain and snow came down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it."

Intro:

Isaiah 54:2-3   Enlarge your house; build an addition. Spread out your home, and spare no expense! For you will soon be bursting at the seams.

Isaiah 54:17   But in that coming day no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord; their vindication will come from me. I, the Lord, have spoken!

  • It's Time to Accept God's Call
      • Isaiah 55:1   Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink - even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk - it's all free!
      • 2 Corinthians 6:1-2   As God's partners, we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God's kindness and then ignore it. For God says, "At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you." Indeed, the "right time" is now. Today is the day of salvation.
  • It's Time to Invest in Your Soul
      • Isaiah 55:2   Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good?
      • Matthew 6:33   Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
  • It's Time to Be Listening for God's Voice
      • Isaiah 55:2-3   Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food. Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life.
      • Revelation 2:7   Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.
  • It's time to Seek the Lord
      • Isaiah 55:6   Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near.
      • Luke 21:28   So when all these things begin to happen, stand and look up, for your salvation is near!
  • It's Time to Change Our Ways
      • Isaiah 55:7   Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong. Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy on them. Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously.
      • Acts 3:19-20   Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away. Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord.
  • It's Time to Change Our Thinking
      • Isaiah 55:8-9   "My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts," says the Lord. "And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts."
      • Philippians 4:8-9   And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me - everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.
  • It's time to Stand Upon God's Word
      • Isaiah 55:11   It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.
      • Hebrews 4:12   For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

Conclusion:

Romans 13:11   This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.
